The working principle of the relief valve mainly involves pressure control and flow regulation.
The relief valve controls the pressure of the hydraulic system by setting a spool that regulates the pressure. When the pressure in the hydraulic system exceeds the set value, the relief valve will flow the hydraulic oil back to the tank to ensure that the pressure of the system will never exceed the set value. The effect is similar to that of a voltage regulator in a circuit.
The relief valve can also be used to regulate flow. When the system pressure reaches the set value, the spool spring is compressed, and the spool moves so that the overflow port between the valve body and the spool is fully opened, allowing more hydraulic oil to flow out.
The structure of the relief valve mainly has two kinds: direct acting type and pilot type. The direct-acting relief valve is mainly composed of regulating nut, regulating spring and spool. When the inlet pressure is greater than the set pressure, the valve will open and overflow from the outlet. When the inlet pressure drops to less than the set pressure, the outlet will stop the overflow. The pilot relief valve is mainly composed of pilot valve and main valve, the pilot valve controls the pressure, the main valve controls the flow.
In general, the relief valve controls the flow of hydraulic oil through the movement of the spool, so as to achieve effective control of the pressure and flow of the hydraulic system.
